Which Patients?
Patient types appropriate for the use of IMPACT® include:
- Patients with cancer who undergo major surgery for upper GI, gastric, pancreatic, colorectal, esophageal, or head and neck cancer
- Cardiac patients undergoing coronary artery bypass, heart valve or aortic surgery.
- IMPACT® is not appropriate for surgical patients for whom immune suppression is desired.
The precise nutritional needs of each surgical patient will differ, and the appropriate formula should be chosen based on an individualized nutritional assessment.
Options include:
- IMPACT®: For patients requiring a 1.0 kcal/cc low-residue formula.
- IMPACT® with Fiber: For patients requiring a 1.0 kcal/cc formula with fiber to help promote normal bowel function.
- IMPACT® 1.5: For patients with a fluid restriction or high energy needs requiring a calorically dense, 1.5 kcal/cc, low-residue formula.
- IMPACT® Glutamine: For patients with GI impairment, or requiring a calorically dense (1.3 kcal/cc) formula with supplemental levels of glutamine and fiber.
- The oral version of IMPACT® for patients not requiring tube feeding support.
